Is Homemade Dog Food Cheaper?

Our golden retriever/german shepard mix weighs 70lbs and the 8 month old puppy border collie/lab mix weighs 60lbs. They get about 3 cups of food each twice a day. One batch lasts about 1 week. We try to change up the protein sources every month or so. This is just to give you an idea of what we save making homemade dog food.

Chicken thighs costs $1.18/lb x 15 = $17.70

18 eggs cost $2.88

5 cups white rice (10 lbs costs $5.88 = 25 cups divided by 5) $1.18

ProSense daily vitamins (90 tablets costs $5.88 divided by 14) $0.98

Total costs $22.74 and makes about 20 lbs of food.

Compare a 15 lb bag of Blue Buffalo costs $32.99.

Savings of $10.25 per week or $41 each month...$492 a year!!
